The “Guest Room” hosts a themed selection of design objects curated with a focus on idea-driven design. In Milan on the evening of December 11, 1980 Italian designer and architect Ettore Sottsass invited a group of young makers to discuss the future of design after modernism. Taking its name from the song that played in the background that night, “Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again” by Minnesota’s own Bob Dylan, the Memphis Group was born.
With its unconventional proportions, bold colors, and clashing patterns, Memphis furniture has achieved legendary status and continues to surprise and delight. For this iteration of the Guest Room, Idea House 3 presents a selection of museum-quality statement pieces from the Memphis Group.
