Printed by Todd Norsten, Minneapolis

Matthew Barney’s hybrid installation practice, which unites performance, unorthodox materials, and moving images, has resulted in a universe composed of a wildly complex pantheon of figures and forces, each of which overflows with narrative connotations and sculptural possibilities. Drawing has been central to the evolution of his evocative and labyrinthine iconography. This print, which depicts two bees and a hive, was published on the occasion of the Walker-organized exhibition Cremaster 2: The Drones’ Exposition (1999), which premiered the artist’s film Cremaster 2 within the context of a site-specific sculptural installation.
